Real Tipi Wedding - Rose & George

We're often asked what happens if the weather's not great on the day of a teepee wedding. The thought of bad weather is most certainly worse than the reality of it as Rose and George would certainly vouch for!

We're also regularly asked for venue recommendations to hold a teepee wedding and as Rose eludes to - there sure are some hidden gems out there...

"We got married at Thwaite Watermill in Leeds which is a very charming working Watermill and museum. We had the ceremony in the mill room and then the teepee reception on the Paddocks.

I found it with a simple google search and despite it being only 1 mile from our house we didn’t know anything about it before then!"

Sadly Thwaite's have since stopped offering Weddings as Leeds City Council have ended their residency at this beautiful venue. Fear not though - we have some other beauties up our sleeves! Get in touch to hear about some of our favourite Yorkshire wedding venues.

Rose explains how her and George decided on a teepee wedding - "We wanted to do something a bit different and laidback for our wedding and we really liked the idea of having an outdoor wedding.  We thought a teepee would create a great atmosphere and be a little bit more special than a standard marquee.  From the first conversation with Bar Events, Laura was so supportive and helpful, and I felt really comfortable chatting to her about all our plans. They gave us the confidence that they knew exactly what they were doing and the process would be easy- which it was!"

The planning process is bound to be a bit stressful at times but we pride ourselves in working closely with our couples to help as much as we can with the overall plans for their wedding day. "Planning in general was quite stressful especially as the big day got closer, but Bar Events were great at helping ease the stress and made the teepee/bar side of things super easy. They also helped out coordinating with the venue and other suppliers to make sure we hadn’t missed anything."

Rose shares her top tips for couples planning a teepee wedding "Maybe budget for a heater or fire just in case but don’t be fazed by the weather! It’s just as good in a teepee in the rain (maybe even cosier).

Go to showcase so you can get a feel for how you might layout the teepee and get ideas for decorations etc. Doing this really helped us visualise what it would be like on the day. The showcase we went to was very rainy too so it showed us that it would be alright if it rained on our day as well!

It’s likely that you’re doing a DIY wedding if you’re booking a teepee, so I would say try to limit the number of suppliers to help with  coordination on the day. This is one of the reasons we chose to get the bar with Bar Events as well as the teepee."

"Our day was very wet most of the day and sun came out later on in the evening. Having everyone in the teepee hiding from the rain actually gave it a really good atmosphere and I think made it all the more fun!

The weather did mean we had to be a bit flexible with the schedule (confetti and photos for example) but it didn’t dampen our spirits and everyone just went with it.

It’s a good idea to have some brollies on hand and let your guests know that they need to wear suitable footwear in case the grass gets a bit wet!"

Rose described her wedding day in three words "Fun, colourful, lively". Fun is a recurring one when we ask couples this question - we love that!!!

Rose & George celebrated in a double giant teepee with around 80 day and 100 evening guests in total. We provided our Full Bar Package which meant our team was on site all day and night to ensure everything ran as smoothly as possible in and around the teepee.
