Planning a Winter Teepee Wedding
We’re often asked whether our teepees are suitable for use in winter months. YES they are! Our Tentipi authentic Nordic teepees are rigorously tested and built with adverse weather conditions in mind. Not only that but there is something totally magical about a winter wedding and having run teepee events in the depths of winter since 2015 we really are the people to help.

So, where to start with planning your winter wedding?
Much the same as planning for a summer wedding, a great place to start is to get an idea of guest numbers seated for your meal and in total at night. The size of structure you’ll need will depend mostly on this, along with a few other elements such as:
- The space you have available to use
- The configuration you’d like your teepees to sit in
- What other items you’d like to fit inside the teepee (other than dining furniture) – dancefloor, fire pit, bar, chill out furniture
Once we’ve established what size teepee set up is going to work based on the above we can work with you to make it as weatherproof and epically cosy as possible.

Will your guests be warm?
Absolutely! Let’s face it – if you’re looking at October onwards for your outdoor wedding – it’s going to be cold outside. It’s best to give guests an idea of what to expect – they will need to nip outside to use the loos for example but the space inside your teepee will be toasty warm.
We have a couple of heating options – discreet and very effective marquee heaters. These tend to sit outside the structure and blow in warm air.
Another heating option is to add one (or more) of our fire pits. Not only do our fire pits kick out heat, they really add to the atmosphere of the teepees. We burn natural compressed logs which have a high heat output but little smoke or ash.

How can we make your teepee set up ‘winter proof’?
Unlike summer where you’d have the teepee sides raised to the elements – this is much less of an option in winter. No problem there though as we can install oak doors and canvas or PVC panels, keeping the space enclosed but still as spacious as possible.
The ground is also more likely to be more saturated in winter months so we always recommend boarding under the matting floor to keep your venue nice and dry under foot.
Additional matting can also be run from the teepee to your loos and venue entrance to ensure that guests don’t have to walk across grass areas if it’s particularly wet.
Further benefits of a winter wedding?
If you still need some encouragement as to why a winter wedding is for you here are a few other potential pros:
- Suppliers tend to have a little more flexibility date wise in winter months and some may even offer reduced rates for out of season weddings.
- Your guests are less likely to have holidays booked so chances of getting all your favourite people in one place might be less of a logistical nightmare.
- Scope to go even more sparkly than normal with your decor. Fairy lights, festoon lights, eddison bulbs, sparklers, fire pits, more fairy lights (you get the picture)
- Some quirky winter touches could make your day really stand out – think mulled wine and marshmallows by the fire, winter cocktails, maybe even some snowy photos?!

Don't just take our word for it.
Ruth & Michael celebrated their big day with us in the depths of winter a couple of years ago. It was truly magical.
"Waking up the morning of our December wedding to a crisp frost on the windows and sparkling blue skies set the magical tone for the rest of our day.
Although we had never discussed what season we would get married in, circumstances meant that we had 12 weeks to plan and organise so December it was, and it was the best decision ever!
The teepees provided a unique experience for us and our guests with the log fires, mulled wine, blankets (although we we’re never cold) and even the odd Christmas song playing! Dan and Laura were the best hosts and delivered everything we could have dreamt of and more.
We kept it very simple with holly and eucalyptus foliage on the tables and let the teepee fairy lights sparkle.
We spent the 4 days after the wedding in deep snow in the Swiss alps returning on Christmas Eve. Every year I can’t wait to count down on our advent calendar and reminisce on such a perfect day."
Have we convinced you?
